The publications are available to order from the NSPKU Publications Officer at the address shown on the order form or available to download below.  All files are less than 1 MB unless otherwise stated.  Please note that the contact details on some of these publications are now out of date.  Always refer to the web site for the current details.

Dietary Information Booklets These booklet gives information about the phenylalanine content of many different foods.

Management Of PKU - this is a booklet outlining the recommendations for the management of PKU.

News & Views - this is a quarterly newsletter that is distributed to all NSPKU family members and medical professionals with literary subscription. It contains news, comments, advice, recipes and letters.  A number are available to download.

Conference Abstracts - summary of talks from previous conferences.  A number are available to download including the latest conference.

The Child with PKU - this is a booklet giving basic information about the cause of PKU, how it is passed down from parents, and the dietary treatment for PKU. The booklet contains information that would be useful to both parents of children with PKU and teenagers/adults with PKU themselves.

Joe's Story - This is an excellent illustrated booklet written by the Schofield family for all the family to read about PKU.

Mummy why can't I eat your food  - a booklet aimed at young children to help them understand PKU. It contains many colour diagrams and pictures and is based around the experiences of one young boy.  The online version however does not contain the pictures.  This booklet has now been superseded by Joe's Story but is kept here for interest.

Granny's Guide -  A booklet written for friends and families to get a basic understanding of the diet.

Packed Meals for PKUs - (updated summer 2006) a guide to preparing packed meals for school lunches and picnics. There are many recipes and ideas for brightening up the PKU diet. 5 MB

Learn with Bristles - How to have Healthy, Happy Teeth - a leaflet, aimed at children, telling them how to look after their teeth. It features Bristles the Hedgehog helping children to understand how, when they are on a PKU diet, it is even more important for them to look after their teeth.

PKU - Dental Health - a leaflet, aimed at parents and designed to fit alongside the Bristles leaflet, giving guidance on how to look after their children's teeth.

Blood Taking Advice - a leaflet to help get the best from your blood tests.

Dietary Treatment of the Untreated Adult PKU - a booklet describing some of the issues around the dietary treatment of previously untreated adults with PKU.

Disability Living Allowance  - a document to help those wishing to claim DLA.

Pictorial guide to low protein foods a 35 page A4 colour guide to the diet.  2005 edition now available.

Lets learn about PKU 7-11 years is now available to purchase by post for £30 including postage.  This is a learning skills guide intended for dietitians and nurse specialists for educating children about PKU.  Click on the link above for an extract that includes the contents details.  Included is a CD containing all the worksheets so they can easily be printed off.  For further information, please contact dietitan@nspku.org  To order please send a cheque made payable to the NSPKU to the address on the home page.

The dietary treatment for PKU varies for each person so all information produced by the NSPKU is for guidance only.  NSPKU publications should only be used in consultation with your own dietitian and/or doctor.

The following document is not a NSPKU publication but is included here to promote the Birmingham Children's Hospital excellent low protein cooking recipe folder.
